Hope this is the correct forum for this Q.

I am decorating an old wooden window frame and it is sealed to the wall with what looks like red mortar/cement. Well half of it has dropped out and I will need to redo it. But what do I look for in B&Q or Wickes ? Neighboiur says it is red mastic - but i thought that was more like putty - this is definitely cement !

Thanks for any advice

John

It will be trowel mastic, which is, in the majority of cases red (although it's also available in stone iirc):-

You can mix it with linseed oil to make it more workable.

*Other manufacturers are also available.

This mastic is old fashioned - it cracks, goes hard and falls out.

A more flexible silicone or polysulphide mastic may be better
