Im just making a flower bed & have come across a grey pipe, it has lots printed on it 'HEP2O SERVICES & GENERAL HEATING', its about 9" down I have uncovered about a metre, what is it? I cant see where its going to or from. I think it could be old scrape buried, but I dont want to carry on digging if I need to leave it alone

I have now exposed 3metres.
Could it be a calor gas pipe as I have a big tank & its running in that general direction.
or
Could it be water to an outside tap that is also in that general direction.

It wont or shouldnt be Gas, my bet is that its a water feed to your outside tap, not an ideal pipe for below ground but hey-ho

I just ran the outside tape to try hear or feel but no joy, 9" is not far down enough to stop it from freezing is it?

9" of soil is better than 1"/25mm of foam, so 9" probably is enough.
Have you had any water problems in the past?
If it ain't broke.....

I've only just moved in, its a 200 yr old property that had a new extension on 3 yrs ago & was updated. The previous owners bought it after renovation & now we are here.
