There is a famous soul type song which has a longish instrumental break in which all instruments (I particularly remember the brass and bass) play the same thing. I heard it on the TV in the last week but can't remember any lyrics.

No I can't hum it. I know it was long shot.

The bass does play the same as the brass - thought that might narrow it down a bit.
