The rosemary and thyme we grow in the garden is not as healthy as it should be with white/grey freckles all over the leaves. See pictures added. What is this and is there anything I can do about? Even the councils own street displays in our town with the same herbs look much more healthy than ours do.

Grateful for any help.

it could be a mould/mildew of sorts due to the very damp warm weather.

Are they in pots or the ground? Re-potting or planting with a 60-40 mix of compost to grit would help and then a grit mulch.

Thats my only suggestion really but others may know more specific pests, certainly with the weather recently fungus and pests are rife.

Much of the garden is shadowed by a large sycamore . . . . . I do wonder if the sap is a contributory factor to any mould/mildew?

What you're looking at is powdery mildew, usually brought about by a combination of extreme changes in humidity and 'stagnant' air. That's why the council ones may look better - they'll be getting better air circulation if they're up off the ground in window boxes etc. This season has been a bumper year for all pests and diseases due to the appalling and changeable weather
You could spray, but really not worth it - just use a different planting scheme for next season. Pull out the plants and burn or compost them when they start looking really bad - if you leave them in situ until the late Autumn then there will be even more overwintering spores ready for next season.
