I'm basically building a sloping wall above a stairwell on the first floor - the idea is to gain more space in the room neext to the stairs rather than have a huge wasted space above the stairs on the 1st floor. Is this BC notifiable?

Obviously if soemone fell through it from within the room they'd go down a flight of stairs so I'm going to use 6 by 2 so it wouldn't collapse in that situation.

I don't know but I suggest that if it's shallower than 45 degrees off horizontal it's a floor, and if it's more than 45 degrees off horizontal it's a wall.

Either way it's going to have to comply with something.

It's a soffit, and its not controlled work unless the property is more than 2 storeys high (fire spread)
