when to scratch?

just a quick one

when you apply some bonding to internal (very thin) breeze blocks do you pva them first?

plus when do you scratch the bonding , when its set for half hour or straight after you have finished laying it on.

Prime with PVA, scratch before it sets within a couple of hours, depending on area covered and condition of mix.

Put the bonding on the wall, and scratch it within a few minutes of putting it on. If you leave it too long, it wont scratch the same. Don't scratch it too deeply either.
