in a conversation with a colleague about TT installation , he said

1) you cant have a TT earth electrode anywhare because of the ground, e.g. dry ground is no good.

2) when there is a a fault in a TT installation the cuurent goe down the earth rod and travels through tghe earth i.e. the soil and back to the transformer.

I always thought it woul just dissipate into the general mass of earth, whats correct?

true, wet ground is much more conductive than dry ground, thus you can't put the earth rod under the floorboards, etc

I want some of that electron absorbing soil , seriously though, he is, there is another electrode at the local substation,if when you are out in the country if you have a look at a pole pig transformer, you can quite often see the earth running down the pole to the electrode at the base[/quote]
