Where should washing machine waste go on this setup?

I'm replacing a washing machine and the waste pipe from the previous machine was attached to the top inlet of the waste in the photo (via a washing machine waste spigot that I've temporarily removed). The hose from the new machine won't fit onto the same spigot so at the moment I've got it going into the bottom inlet as it fits better than being at the top. Does it matter which of these two inlets I use?

Bottom Connection, although ensure Drain Hose goes up to the underside of the worktop and drops to the drain connection.

Top Connection looks like it should be for an Air Admittance Valve, (Anti Vac Trap), needs capping with something, ideally replacement Valve.

Thanks for your reply. The washing machine is just to the left of the sink so the provided hose is maybe too long, although it does allow me to pull the machine out without needing to disconnect it. It's currently routed as in the photo, is this ok?

Also, I've capped off the top connection with a stopper that was previously on the bottom connection. The sink above does gargle a bit though when the waste is flowing out - is there a valve I could fit that would prevent this?

Should be ok, machine will pump out as it needs to, the reason for dropping the drain hose to the discharge point is to prevent any discharge from other appliances draining back into the washing machine.
