Hi All, :)
I'm new to this site. I have a HUGE problem!

Got Scottish hydro to service my boiler this morning and discovered that my "Combustion case seal" is leaking therefore making it dangerous.

He tried to source the part but hey guess what it's obsolete!!

Surely there's got to be a way to get this part, boiler is 20yrs old. Parts number is 102134BAX.

I'm really desperate for this as the hydro quoted me £3500/4000 for a new boiler, plus of course 19.9apr on top  !!! which i cannot affor.

Any1 pls help....... thank you in advance to any1 that takes the time to read my story. :D

Make of boiler would be nice.........

Then i'm afraid your boiler is more than 20 years old near 25 minimum, yes the seal is obsolete. The seal is an integral part that saves you from going to sleep indefinately, so you can search and search but unfortunately it's time to source a new boiler, here's a tip for free..2nd hand Ideal Isar.

Thank you eventho that was not the answer i was hoping for...

What about if i was to find an old boiler for spares can the seal be salvaged?

Or is there really no other way round this?

I'm just really upset to the fact of having to replace a full boiler over 14 spare part (i realise it's an important part) but £4000 seams steep... :(

Cheers, Aimée

I can't think which seals the guy is on about here cause that is a balanced flue boiler which doesn't rely on case seals for combustion product integrity.

So you'd be ok leaving the combustion case off then.

Hmmm?!? i'm confused in all this plumber terms...
The Hydro engineer refuses to put by boiler back on saying that i can send him to jail for 5yrs as it's life threaning etc....

But hey NVM..... I have just managed to out source the part this second from "heating spares specialist 01202718660" and it only cost me £9.50+vat!!! not bad considering they wanted £4000 from me!

I want to thank every1 that helped me today.
I will defo return to this site for my future problems... i have many outstanding jobs hahaha

Glad you got a result aimee, your hydro man was quite correct to turn off and isolate the gas to your supply with a faulty seal. It's not there to rip you off. It's a legal and moral requirement of us all dealing with gas grrrrr everyday. Good luck.

Nobut there are no seals on the combustion chamber front cover for that boiler if it is a balanced flued one.

And who is going to fit this new seal I wonder?

Can't imagine Scottish Hyrdo wanting to do it.

There's a seal shown for the front cover to combustion box on Partsarena.

Are you completely insane? Maybe the ones you have serviced have all been missing a case seal? Are you talking about the outer decorative casing? Couple of screws and 4 hook brackets?

Not completely no, not yet anyway but thanks for asking

Checked partsarena and there is a seal there so stand corrected.

I have managed to get them to come and fit the seal free of charge, get refund of £93 :p  for last 7 months as they never serviced my boiler in the given time.
But i'm still canceling my contract with them...[/quote]

Well done Aimee.

Hope cancelling the contract isn't the "kiss of death" for the boiler.
