Where to position curtain rail when you have a picture rail

1952 ex-council terraced house, very typical post-war house in these parts.

Picture rail 230mm from ceiling, then 100mm from bottom of picture rail to top of window reveal.

Where would you put the curtain rail? I know this is probably a design / personal preference thing but I just cannot picture it. All my neighbours have taken down the picture rail so nothing to compare. Suggestions please.

Depends on the curtain rail your fitting, you have 100mm to fix brackets. That should be enough room for a lot of rails to work.
May be not that appealing on the eye, but functional.
You could also consider fitting blinds inside the window reveals or pull the picture rail down like your neighbours have.
