if you want to meet and chat,
I have sent you a PM

Off hand I cannot name a modern boiler that does not have fault indicators. I do know of an ancient boiler ( at least 40 years old ) still in reliable service that has no indicators.

It is the ( excessive ? ) complexity of modern boilers that creates the need to have fault diagnostics built into the boiler.

And is this in an industrial/commercial environment with a resident engineer who's job it is to maintain said boiler (and other m&e kit)?

There are locomotives and beam engines of older years that operate beautifully but need a crew who know their nuances in great depth!

A domestic boiler. I guess the owner has become the "resident engineer" although he does have a annual inspection now by a GasSafe technician.

I am fully aware that as with most makes of boiler several components will be bought in from specialist manufacturers who supply components to several different boiler manfacturers

Bernard, which part's do J&S make (excluding the badge)

Only asking as that is how reliability can be measured also the long term supply of spare parts, you could have a box full of custom made gicomini & caleffi parts or even worse.

custom made parts have a limited production run of around 10 years maximum but you know that, just trying to be helpful as you may want to consider buying some spare parts before they are so called obsolete

I agree that obsolescence and its management is a potential problem.

Knowing the manufacturer of bought in parts can help in sourcing obsolete parts to avoid having to replace the appliance when the appliance manufacturer stops selling spare parts and instead tries to sell a new appliance .

Appliance manufacturers are often reluctant to provide that information in case they lose revenue from the sale of spare parts or new appliances when people go direct to the company that manufactures the part(s) declared obsolete by the appliance manufacturer

Some parts described as "custom made" are in fact stock items with minor if any changes.

Have any of you installers / service engineers had any problems with the J/S reno boilers , breakdowns e.t.c , any useful comments e.c.t would be appreciated .

My Reno has been running for 6 years.

No one ever seems to be provide any detailed reasons why the Reno is ( in the minds of some ) an un-reliable boiler.

FFS bernerd come on  , so your recommending that then ?
I am merely saying that J&S is an option and that mine works well

He asked for information about boilers. I mentioned J&S as an option. The hijacking was by people who want to eliminate support for boilers other than the ones they prefer to install.
