I'm after a new circa 120 litre builders wheelbarrow. Can anyone recommend any specific manufacturers or their suppliers?

What's the consensus on whether galvanised or plastic barrows are best?

Plastic ones break far too easily

Ones with a no-puncture bouncy tyre are only a few £'s more nowadays.

It really depends what is in stock locally though

Only issue with the rubber tyres is that they are of no use going over rubble. Interesting about the plastic tubs breaking so easily, they look bloody solid.

They are not the solid rubber ones for hard floors, but are just like the inflatable ones, only puncture proof.

The plastic troughs crack really easy when you throw stuff in, and also crack around the bolt fixings as it flexes

No good for rubble etc, or using the shovel in for mixing

I haven't seen the non-puncture 'soft' tyres before. Will have a look.

What are your opinions on size - 90 litre vs 120 litre seem to be the most common. Does 120 litre start getting a bit too big to fit down narrow sides?

Costco do a really good barrow for about £45. The handles are long box section steel so you stand further back and dont kick the barrow as you walk. Unbelievable value if you have a Costco card. I reckon this barrow in B&Q would retail for about double the price. Youu have to build it yourself but thats hardly a big chore.

I only tend to ever see two types locally - the wide green haemmerlin ones from France, and a narrower black one which I suppose are traditional UK ones

Yes, the black ones are narrower and may go up an alley easier (oah missus), but the green ones seem a bit easier to push when loaded and are better for mixing in and piling up the bricks and blocks

I don't know abut sizes though - a barrows a barrow to me

The problem with daddads suggested long arm barrow is that they are harder to tip

Evis - this is a DIY site after all so why not just make your own :D
Here's one I made this week and a spade too for your other thread ,
