Basically my carpets are a bit stained and to make matters worse I think they are harboring moths. I need to have the carpets washed. I need a carpet washer which is 'idiot proof' as I dont want to risk injuring myself or shrinking the carpets. Which ones are the easiest to use? Do you have to vaccuum the rooms before you use the carpet washer? and which ones are your most impressed with?

Thanks in advance.

Your carpets will not shrink unless you use hot water only ever use tepid water in the carpet cleaner

Yes hoover carpet before cleaning (use a stiff brush to raise nap of carpet up before hoovering)

I use an orange vax shampooer http://www.vax.co.uk/shop/multifunction-vacuum-cleaners/Vax-6131

does a great job ,just make sure that you spend time sucking the water back up from the carpet, open all doors and windows for good airflow this really is the most important part of the process ,otherwise you will get a musty damp smell for weeks.

Use a low foaming shampoo if the shampoo foams too much place a bar of soap in the water well of the cleaner(it stops shampoo foaming)

Repeat if neccessary usually twice is enough to get carpets in good condition

Take a look here basically all you need to know http://www.thecleanersdirectory.com/effctcleang.htm

Hope it helps good luck

You seem to know your stuff. Which do you think gives a better clean? Something hired from HSS or the Rug Doctor?
