We are changing our boiler but but don't know which boiler to go for.

1. Wall Hung, room sealed condensing boiler

or

2. Combination boiler

We are in a hard water area and I have been told combi bolier's are not advisable in hard water areas, any suggestions - WHY?

well unless you have very good reason

you would have to ave a CONDENSING combination

combis are main feed water heaters so they really dont like scale, but if you fit decent in line inhibiter you should be grand.

Only thing that precludes fitting a combi is the flow rater and pressure of you mains supply (water) and whether you have loads of bathrooms.

There is a risk of lime forming in the secondary/heat exchanger where a combi is fitted in a hard water area. Although you can use lime scale inhibitors of various types these often need maintenance so its better to stick with a conventional system. If you need better hot water pressure look at getting an unvented cylinder if you can afford it. They should be fitted by aG3
[Thats the building reg which covers hot water storage] qualified plumber and they must notify the installation to building control

Stay traditional but must use condensing boiler and bs1566 cylinder.

No need for expense of unvented hot water. If you want a good shower pump it.

A combi has multitudinous drawbacks too long to list.

To my great joy the two installations this week both people are going for convensional. One wasn't even aware she could keep her airing cupboard the other estimaters had told her that is where they were going to put her combi, the other said when people are buying a house don't they prefer a combi? All her friends have said they can't believe she isn't having a combi.

WOW how massive the misinformation situation, how ignorant the uninformed.

I have some mitigating advice for those already sold a combi. Get an electric shower a couple of good kettles some fan heaters and a spare key cut for the repair man.

Yes I do fit plenty of combis, I have to make a living. I give them all a chance at the right decision if they choose to ignore my advice I don't have a stand up argument about it, I get on with carrying out their uninformed wishes. But I love it when they make the best choice.
