Hi everyone.

We've just got a new fireplace put in and we'd like a new laminate floor to go with it but we don't want to spend a lot of money on something that won't last, so we'd like some advice from anyone who can help please.

We put laminate from B&Q in the kitchen that has a slate tile effect but if the kids drop a fork on it or anything, it leaves a chip. The packet said that the floor would be suitable for heavy domestic or light commercial use! It's got loads of chips and scratches and is just over a year old.

Can anyone suggest a brand that might be a bit more lasting?

Thanks

If you want better quality and a floor type that can handle falling knifes etc, opt for wood-engineered instead of melamine laminate (the plastic stuff).

Small damages can be repaired, something you can't do with laminate.
