Which plaster to use?

Hi guys, just about ready to plaster my stairs and landing in my 1900 end terrace. The walls are a mixture of stone/brick one side and all brick on the other, is it better to use browning or bonding or what for the base coat?
Also as the right hand wall is the external wall of the house do i need to coat it with anythin 1st to prevent damp problems? Should i coat all stone and brick with a PVA mix 1st?

What about my other questions? Can i use bonding/browning? Does the stone/brick need coating with anythin 1st i.e pva mix, some sort of waterproofing etc?
