Hi guys,
I am at the moment, redecorating the lounge - everything but the TV is going to the tip! The existing hot water central heating radiator is a double panel type (with fins on both panels) 1450mm x 750mm, it works great but is about twenty five years old and is also going to the tip.

The rad sits on an internal wall, the room is about 3.5M x 7.2M (standard modern house ceiling height), double glazed at one end and open archway to dining room at the other end.

We have Acova tubular radiators in the dining room and kitchen and would like to put a similar large horizontal Acova in the lounge but have been told that it will not produce as much heat as the old radiator (no convection in the designer rads).

Questions ............

Will a big Acova tubular Striane rad do the job?

If not, do I buy a modern rad with convection fins?

Any recommendations of a specific brand/type of rad?

Thanks for reading this, my first post - but not my last I fear!

Regards

I would be thinking of a 1200 double rad for your size room.

You could put 2 large designer rads ( to the correct kw value) but will cost you an arm and a leg :(

If you have wooden floor and 1outside wall and are not North facing, with the information given you require 11,794btus!

South facing (big double glazed windows), wooden floor, Semi-detached - lots of sun. When I calculated the Btu figure, I came to about 8000.

If you oversize the rad and fit a trv ,its job done. ;)

I like to be roasting in my house :D

Would there be such a thing as a "Designer" 1200mm double radiator?

Any obvious brand names come to mind?
