have followed all the previous checks but my dish washer just keeps on the emptying cycle even when its empty, this last for approx 10 mins when its stops and flashes 4 times , help before i go insane

Take out the filters & bail out as much water as you can. Then look in the right hand side of the sump for this little chap http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Dishwasher+Parts/Whirlpool/Pressure+Switches.htm
Check the "tennis racket" grill isn't blocked by fat, bits of old jam-jar labels, or other good rubbish.

ref the pressure switch that seemed to be the problem, just had our local dishwasher mr fixit around, asked him to replace the offending p/s low and behold it worked (its a miracle), however after we opened it up to to see what the problem was, we found that it had become blocked by the cleaning agent that was used to clear out any fats/grease etc, it had congealed on the diaphram therefore giving the micro switch duff info, hope this explains all

Yes, a fairly common problem on Whirlpool (and a few other makes). Usually its bits of old sticky labels that gum up the works (never wash jam-jars in the dishwasher!). But sometimes stuff can get through & accumulate between the grille & rubber diaphragm as in your case. The diaphragm can also stiffen over time & this too can cause a switch malfunction.
