Hi all. Wow a DIY forum. I bet the universe could be solved with the knowhow here.
Right then.. I live in a Housing association house and have had terrible trouble with the boiler and massive amounts of work done on the boiler by the association.
The boiler is a vaillant. model unknown. It has no separate controls for hot water its a general 1-7 stat only for both heating and water. The system is pressurised with a tank upstairs so its not a combi type boiler.
In the last 12 months I have had a new pressure vessel a new overheat switch several valves have been replaced on the boiler 1 major a large shiny silver 1 just under the boiler (the old 1 was full of bad smelling black sludge. The engineer said hmm that should not be like that?) Another valve at the top of the boiler looked like a pressure release valve. Also had a new pump. Also had a big valve replaced at the tank upstairs I belive it switched over the water from the tank to the tap from the boiler?? Oh and a manual release valve was replaced.
The list goes on but the boiler and system is 9.5 years old the association will not replace the boiler as it is under 10 years old. On its last annual inspection for gas safety the guy that came said that he had just joined the service company he was talking to me whilst filling in some paperwork when he took the cover of the boiler he said "Jesus this has had a hard life look at all this stuff bolted to it"??
Anyway my latest problem is. After the recent fitting of a new pressure vessel the whole system is whistling. Every thermostat on every rad in the house is singing in a awful high pitched whistle. If I turn the stat down at first it stopped or became quieter but now twisting the stat does not alter the sound at all. The noise wakes up my little lad and daughter and drives me and the wife crazy. If I call out the service company they say "all systems do that mate??" I have never had a system do this before. Why is it doing it and is there anything I can do to stop it.
Cheers people
