Most lefties are fundamentally nice people. They want the world to be nice and want everyone to share, hug and be happy. But they're also fairly simple - they seem to really believe that those who believe otherwise actually want the world to be cruel and selfish. That just isn't true, the reality is that most have seen socialism in action and have learnt that it's not actually nice at all in practice.
We're starting to see the classic results of socialism as seen around the world here now - crackdowns, enforcement and elimination of anyone who doesn't agree. Things are getting worse by the week, it's going to be insane within a couple of years. Getting rid of juries (after 800 years, without discussion or mandate), ID tracking apps on everyone's phones, internet censorship, locking up people for having the wrong opinions etc etc.
Is this a problem, and what do you think should be done about it?
The current government are very unlikely to be the answer.
The answer presented by many is communism. Which is a dirty word, so they normally call it something else. E.g. The Green Party.

We have a left-wing government. Is the country in a state of utopian bliss? No, it's a ****-show, as it always is when they're in charge.

He thinks anybody that isn't as far right as him is a lefty communist.
That's increasingly true... people are becoming more polarised. Those who were in the middle are picking a side and joining it, mostly because they think the other lot are terrible.
The left have been using tactics borrowed from religious cults for the last couple of decades. Basically brainwashing techniques. So their supporters are a lot like believers, and are very difficult to reason with. A lot like Jehovah's Witnesses, left-wing people build their social circles around their political beliefs. Anyone who sees the light and decides to challenge any of these beliefs will be shunned and ousted by their friends. It's a very powerful way of controlling the minds of humans, who are fundamentally social creatures. The JWs have been doing this for decades, it works really well for them.
