Why are there 2 inlet valves in my Bosch washing machine?

I’ve got a Series 6 Bosch washing machine with one water connection (cold feed only) so why are there 2 valves at the water inlet valve.? Is one for feeding the pre-wash container and one for feeding the main dispensing container?
The reason I ask is because I replaced this inlet valve a few weeks ago and have noticed that the filling water now comes in through the pre-wash container, rather than the main compartment. I’m sure I replumbed the pipes correctly and the plug connector only fits one way so I think the wiring in the valve must be faulty, but that seems unlikely.

I’ve actually got 3 compartments! Main powder (left) , conditioner (middle, prewash powder (right). I suspect one valve is for the main, one for pre-wash and when both flow together, they go into the conditioner compartment?

Mine starts by sending water through the prewash compartment, then, after churning a bit, switches to sending it through the powder compartment. I've heard it does that using a diverter flap. Something to do with not wasting powder by letting it fall straight through to the sump.

Yes I had just started to remove the old valve and I thought it would be a good idea to take a photo so that I’d fit the new one correctly. Hence the loose connector!
