Why are touch controls fitted to induction hobs?

I am lucky mine has knobs but my mothers had to be ripped out because of touch controls.

1) Can't be seen at the angle of view for anyone in a wheel chair.
2) Slow to operate you need to lift pan rather then simply turn off.
3) Often effected with food spillage so control it lost.

With halogen hobs I could see the point of easy clean before anything gets baked on but with induction stuff does not bake on and the use of touch controls means the fast reaction time of the induction hob is lost due to the poor human machine interface offered with touch controls when compared with a simple knob.

So why make them?

Because the manufacture/marketing people think they is what we want.
If there were poor sales as against those with a knob, ie no demand then they wont be allowed for long. The market dictates after the product has been launched.
