Why can’t we be like this over here?

Yeah, great isn't it?

More kids in education!
Less unemployment!

Hmmm... maybe we should just sort out the employment problem rather than encouraging kids to borrow £40k to get another qualification.

I think you should check out some EU youth unemployment figures.

perhaps it would be better looking at the UKs real unemployment figures, not government spin.

zero hours contracts, millions suffering in work poverty.

the only reason so many are going to university is that we have compulsory education until 18 -handy for Universities which are now profit making businesses.

It's not compulsory to remain in education until 18. It's compulsory to be in education or training until 18.

With the masks, it was to give people time to buy some. It would be unfair to start fining people without a chance to buy some?

In theory I agree. But we were advised in April to wear them and my wife and I, along with a lot of other people, have been wearing them since when going out in public.
My 14 year old grandson asked me tonight, "Why do people wear their masks on the bus but then take them off when they get to the shops?" I had to admit I had no idea.

Back to the opening post, there is a guy at work with a place in spain - the local government has been going round knocking on peoples doors and giving them masks.
I'll have a heart attack the day I see the UK government doing that!

Your grandson is correct - no continuity with decision making. However, I do think they had to give a warning because fines are involved this time - April was just advice? I know I couldn't get any for love of money and they're selling out quick online again. Those without computers/cars will be at the mercy of local shops, which may not always be fruitful.

Either that, or the gov are being incompetent again! :) :)

ps - you're good your way! I went to sains last week and I saw 2 people in the whole store with a mask. It's pretty much been that ratio since this whole thing started around here.

It's because they are single-use masks; that would be two uses.

I saw two young lads recently drive into a supermarket car park already wearing masks.
They got out of the car and put on gloves. Very cautious, I thought.

Then they came back from the shop and removed their gloves by pulling the fingers - like you do - ok for the first hand but then, of course removed the second glove by pulling the fingers with the bare hand with the first glove screwed up in the palm of that hand.

Then screwed up both gloves and put them into a pocket.

Oh well, they are trying.

Londoners wisely elected a grown-up mayor who takes things seriously.

You mean a juvenile moron who thinks it was a good idea to launch childish inflatable toys to pillory the US president. While at the same time letting knife crime get out of control. Obviously a stupid Khan (t).

Some kind of 'grown-up'!

Well for a long time I thought it better that I stayed and tried in a very small way to attempt to try and reverse the decline...

A fool's errand as it turned out of course...

However events beyond control have delayed my departure, so at present I'm a captive on the 'ship of fools'!

NURSE!!!!!

I find people here have been willing to wear masks from day one. Would say almost quarter of shoppers in my local Asda wear them. Was slightly bizarre in early days of lockdown to be in Asda cheese aisle and see a man coming towards me in WW2 type full face gas mask. But as I say, they tend to take it reasonably seriously around here.
