My stop tap is approx. 35 years old and seized. I tried everything to free it, but the spindle snapped. It's in a really difficult place to renew the whole tap. What are the chances of me unscrewing the valve/head gear out of the old tap and screwing in the valve from a new stop tap? Or is it likely that the bodies of older or different manufacturers' stop taps will have different threads and dimensions?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

As Denso says - IF you can get the body out you'll need a BS1010 body to fit it - better to install a new valve somewhere accesible

Thanks for all your replies. So looks like either the threads from one set of internals to another for stop taps may not match. And getting the tap apart may be difficult.

As it looks like black alkathene, can I buy a stop tap to fit the alkathene pipe one side and 15mm copper the other? Or are these no longer available? What size is the alkathene pipe likely to be (mid 80s vintage)? Finally, if I can get a stop tap, are the alkathene pipe inserts still available?

A philpac fitting will work.
You can get them in a stop tap or a coupling with an adaptor to copper in the other end

Agree the Philmac ones are really good, we used one on an old lead pipe of unknown spec, to transition to mdpe and even though it was expensive it did the job spot on!

what does this philmac fitting look like?
