Hello everyone,
I have been checking out the loft for the winter, 1940s purlin roof.
Bad news, only 3x2 ceiling joists and only 75mm of insulation.
The loft is already badly boarded all over so I've removed the boards on the outer sides of the binders and topped up with 200mm but the centre section between the binders I would like to keep boarded but would mean raising by 8"!
The longest timber I think I can get up there is 3.6m which should cover the right hand side room as I can use a wall hanger and rest the other end on the load bearing wall but the left side 1m ish is awkward.
The span is over 5m to a wall but the binders stop/start (join) at 4m from either end not over a wall.
Rough sketch attached.
Will 2x8" be ok for the right side with hangers one end and resting on load bearing wall the other?
Skew screwing ok into ceiling joists?
Any ideas what I can do with the left side 1m ish?
Thanks for looking.
