Hi

I have a few wee "sunken" areas/slight hollows that I want to top dress to try and get them up to a similar height as the rest of the lawn

Is this the time of year to put a top dressing down for this purpose?

What should I use-I heard a mixture of john innes (???number) and grass seed was good but wondered if I should add in some sharp sand and peat and if so in what quantities ??

Thanks

Hi,

The best way to level small patches is to lift the grass and then put earth or compost, or a mixture, directly on the bare ground beneath. I cut three sides of a square and then fold the divot back. It's easy then to flop it back into position once you've got the level right - this may take a bit of trial and error.

Water the earth before you put the grass flap back for the last time and stamp it down firmly.
