Are they all of the programmable type? Also, what does it mean when they have voltage free contacts?? Does it mean it requires a battery to work? If you buy one and use it with a combination boiler, are they easy to install? Thanks for helping.

If you are competent with electricity, it is a doddle. Search the forum for more info, must be over a hundred posts with all kinds of info.

No, but most are.

It means it just acts as a switch which completes a circuit on the boiler. THe boiler is permanently connected to a 240v supply.

Does it mean it requires a battery to work?
The control unit will always be battery operated - otherwise you would be defeating the object. The receiver will be mains operated. All receivers can be wired as either volt-free or mains-switching.

Yes.

Honeywell make a wireless roomstat that is a basic turn up and down type model number Y6630D1007. To wire it up to a combi you only need a 4 core cable, in the boiler you connect it to the live and neutral and then take the link out and connect the two switch wires. The instructions are simple. Remember You should be gas safe registered to work on the boiler.

There is now a digital version, DT90E.

So a Part P Electrician is not allowed to work on the electrical side of a boiler?

You have to be "competent", i.e trained/experienced, to work on a gas fitting.

You have to be Gassafe registered if you work on someone else's gas fitting.
