We have been using an electric cer. hob for about 12 yrs running on a 4mm cable with 30amp rewirable fuse in consumer unit. Recently bought a single oven 2.3 kws. Can both appliances be wired together, making total kws of 8.1 or is this not advisable?

Thanks in advance.

Not really, 8.1kw =35A at 230V & depending on the length of the run you may be over the limit for 4mm cable.

You could connect them both up and (using what is called diversity) they will probably work OK.
If I use normal rules I would get an assumed load of 25A which would be ok normally.
the problem will be if/when u get to use all of the rings and the oven at the same time. Although the controls are thermostatically controlled they may (may) trip the fuse on that circuit when its all on together.

There's a chance then that Xmas dinner might be a bit delayed. the 32A fuse will protect the cable. Suck it and see.
Alternatively plug the oven into a regular 13A socket....
