Sorry to hijack this thread, but why must L and N be isolated on a fan, when it is deemed acceptable to isolate a whole circuit using a SP MCB?

But there's no regs issue preventing the two circuits going through (different poles of) the same switch though?

It's not too dissimilar to downstairs and upstairs lighting circuits sharing the same switchplate.

Isolation devices should preferably be double pole. 537.2.2.5

A double pole switch, circuit breaker and plug top & socket outlet may be used to switch off the supply during mechanical maintenance. 537.3.2.1

Hi guys, Just to clarify my OP - though we seem to gone onto a different area now - I don't want to link the fan to the light (because the bathroom has a good window). I do plan to link to a lighting circuit. However, wouldn't it also be possible to link to a socket circuit if an FCU was used?
