Hi all. Got a query regarding something I have no experience with!

I have a couple of electric patio heaters, specifically Shadow II 2kW heaters: https://www.heat-outdoors.co.uk/shop/free-standing-heaters/shadow-ii-2kw-heater-with-rb-1056733.html

I want to move them to our new patio area at the end of the garden but unsure how to run electricity to the end of the garden without have an ugly extension cable over the lawn, which is about 10m in length.

I'm thinking that my options are to either run a lead along the fence and try to keep it as flush as possible so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, or run a hollow pipe the length of the lawn, bury it a couple of inches beneath the soil and to funnel the cable and protect it.

Anyone done the latter before?

This is wrong on so many levels, so I'm wondering if it's a wind up. But I'll assume not and I'll start with the main issues.

1. You can't run 2 x 2kW heaters from an extension cable. It is well over its operating capacity as well as the 13A socket you would be plugging it into.

2. A 4kW load will need a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit, and not be connected to existing circuit supplying sockets.

3. The outdoor cable will need installing properly using armored cable of the correct size taking into account the electrical loading and length of the cable, buried in a suitably prepared trench deep enough to prevent disturbance during digging. i.e half a metre (not a couple of inches).

4. RCD protection will also need to be provided.

5. Components will need to be suitably IP rated for use outdoors and exposure to the elements.
