When wiring in 2x2 port valves what does the term " switch live " mean?, can it be any colour cable but labeled up as a live?. any other info on wiring heating controls in terms of terminology most welcome.
Yes label it up just as live..CH wiring even confuses electricians there is one wire that goes to the valve that is permenant live but after it passes through the microswitch and goes to the boiler it becomes a switched live.
Hijacking your post a bit how many of you out there wire up your own systems (don`t mean combi`s) and how much do you pay and why?
As a qualified gas eng/plumber and electrician i wire my own. Charge £120 to wire other peoples though.Time, experience and Part P registration are what drives the cost. I Hate paperwork so the time notifying and completing the test certs can take longer than the wiring.
I wire all my own systems, but although Part P I am coming out of the £orgi competent electrics next year and just leaving a minor works certificate with the customer.
I don't do any wiring for anyone else.
I'm not giving £orgi a penny more than needs be.
Let them prove I'm less competent just because I dont pay them £200 or whatever a year.
OP; on a 2 port valve, brown is live from stat to motor, grey is permanent live to microswitch, orange is switched live to boiler/pump etc.
i listed a whole lot but the swear filter removed them all
some very interesting and helpful info on the honeywell website
if you have not started yet, if working on a ch/dhw job, a 3-port valve is easier, cheaper and better than zone valves
I asked the question because the other week in merchants about 7/8 of us sitting chatting and i was amazed that non of them wired up own heatings although they all laid the cables in for the spark as they went along and all paid the same guy around the £120/£150 mark.
