Hello, I want to have some mains powered led's in some alcoves I've built into a stud wall, and possibly along a plinth along the floor.

I want them to go on and off with the room light, so could I simply connect the driver into the switch on the light side of the circuit? The driver would then sit in the attic.

yes, if you have a switched live and a neutral at the switch. If you don't have a neutral at the switch you'll have to connect to the ceiling rose (or equivalent)
