Tried to replace a dim bulb with fluorescenttube in the garage and something has gone wrong as follows:

There was/is a 3 core supply direct to the light and off that a 3 core cable to a stand alone switch.

With everything wired up the light comes on automatically. When the switch is touched (on or off) the whole circuit trips.

Obviously I have done something wrong with the wiring set up as when it was just a bulb the switch/feed worked ok.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

The two lives/neutral/earths are all connected via junction boxes to the feeds into the tube housing. I guess this is where I am going wrong.

Thanks

Adrianne

So what do i do?

I have a neutral from the main feed to the light going into a connection box with the neutral running to the light itself and the other neutral from the switch is also connected to this.

Do I just disconnect the neutral from the switch?

Thanks upfront

Learn how lighting circuits work.

the other neutral from the switch is also connected to this.
not all of the black or blue conductors are neutrals, the one from the switch will be the switched live.

It's not a neutral, it's the switched live. It's because you have connected it to a neutral that the MCB is tripping.

The red to the light should go to an empty terminal(there should be 4 terminals) then connect the red from the switch to this terminal, the black from the switch should have a red marker fitted(pvc tape will do at a pinch) then connected to the terminal with the internal red or brown wire.
