with ring mains when going from room to room is it OK to come up the wall in a channel then go throught the wall behind the socket, then come out in the other room into a socket, and then carry on the circuit into a channel and down and under the floor boards.

or is it best to go through walls under the floor boards?

You generally go from the CU to the void under the 1st floor floor boards, then down to the 1st socket, back up again and along then down to the 2nd socket and so on for ground floor sockets. You do similarly for bedroom sockets only go up the wall.

You only thing to watch out for is that back to back mounted sockets don't leave a lot of wall material to fix to (unless it's a stud wall). There is a danger that is crumbles out.
