Wobbly Staircase

The very bottom standup on the ground floor of our staircase is a bit wobbly, how are these usually fixed to the floor?

or it could be fixed onto the floorboards with cut clasp nails on the skew if a Victorian house.

Yes the bottom newel post, the rest are fine as they have two bannisters at right angles to support them.

THe bottom one looks to have movement as its only supported from one side. I have access to under the floor so will have a look there for any fittings.
