Was up there last night and there are quite a few holes with fresh dust around/underneath so it looks like a live infestation.

The garage is unheated and has a little bit of damp coming up though the floor in a couple of places so the roof timbers are probably a bit moist which is how the worm like them i believe.

Ventilation in there is poor. The garage has a false ceiling with a loft hatch. The walls are rendered so in general it doesn't breathe too well.

I've read that worm don't like dry timber. If i improve the ventilation in the loft space will this be enough to encourage them to go elsewhere?

If so whats the best way to get enough airflow?

Should I also self treat?

If you were in this situ what would you do?

You need to treat the timbers before the flight stage of their life cycle - somewhere around April to July, with global warming! Trying to dry out the timber won't do much good in "encouraging them to go elsewhere" IMHO.

In terms of ventilation you don't say anything about the constuction of the garage, which might help, but I'd be thinking in terms of vents in the gable ends

thanks for the advice so far. i believe the garage is concrete base and block walls (rendered outside) with a tiled roof.
