Hi,
problem with 24cdi boiler.
CH works fine
HW intermittant at best. Slightly better if taps turned on fully?

Reading other posts, i believe that the diverter needs attention. Diaphragm or replace?

Im not sure if i want to tackle this myself. (i have done 2 before on different boilers)

Can anyone advise the cost of a repair in NP20 postcode please?

Alternatively would i be better off, biting the bullet, and replace the boiler.

Is there a suggested boiler that will replace the 24cdi with minimum issues with pipework mods or flue exit etc.

thanks

The good old 24 cdi's from the mid/late 90's.Fitted a 100 or more back in the day but probably time for a new boiler. These were non condensing boilers so you will need some alterations.

Obviously without seeing it hard to say whether diaphragm or complete valve. If it is generally working and parts available, I would keep it. Probably better than some on the market these days.

being an absolute pig to change i would always change the whole valve on a boiler of this age no point getting it all back together and having to do it all again .
they leak for fun on the cold o ring so that also needs changing .
if everything goes to plan its an hours job if it goes t#ts up your talking 2 plus

If you’re saying it’s better with the taps fully open, check your cold mains flow before you buy a diaphragm or a full valve. Run the kitchen cold on its own into a bucket for 10 seconds. On the 24cdi you want at least about 3–4 litres a minute (roughly 0.5–0.7 litres in that 10 seconds) for the diaphragm to switch cleanly. Much under that and it often won’t push far enough, which gives exactly the patchy hot water you’re describing. It certainly sounds like a diaphragm issue, but it’s worth confirming the flow first. If the flow is good, it points back at the diaphragm or the valve. In NP20 you’re probably looking at £150–£250 for an engineer to do it, depending on whether it’s just the diaphragm kit or the full valve. Unless you’re Gas Safe yourself, I’d leave the strip-down to an engineer.

thanks for replies everyone.
Ive called 3 plumbers locally. 2 declined the job, 1 didnt reply.
Ive decided to change the boiler.

probably a baxi 424 will be used.

I know certain things will need sorting, such as flue and condensate discharge.
I'll post again with questions that i have.

Cheers
