Based on my other thread here http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=122692 everythings pointing towards the water/water heat exchanger needing replacement....
I changed the thermistor just in case but no change (well, things seem to be getting worse - no hot water at all.....)

I've got the service manual for the boiler but the diagrams etc of the HE look nothing like the one in my boiler.
In the manual it looks like a rectangular shape with 2 of the fittings on the front face. Mine is a white cylindrical shape with 2 u-bend pipes coming from the top (plus others at the back).

Has anyone else got one of these boilers or has maybe changed one of these?? Don't want to order the part only to find out it's the wrong one.

Worecester P/N according to the book is 8716142902(0).

Anyone shed any light.... Please....?? I really need some hot water soon....

Thanks

is that of the actual boiler or the front of the manual

found two diff water/water he's
boiler serial no prefix ADL, AEB, AFS, AIN, AEV part no 77161922080
all other serial no prefix part no 87161429020

Thanks Mick....Checked the serial it's AIM etc so the PN is pointing to the 87161429020. Is it possible the picture in the manual could be different than the real part?

Thanks again

One more thing - are heat exchanger not usually open plate(finned) type devices as opposed to the white covered thing I'm looking at??

cant find any picsof HEs at mo, will look further

the white cyl type thing at the front is what your looking for. if your going to change it then its quite easy , but make sure you get new gaskets and o rings and silicone grease.

How do I remove the fittings at the back of the HE? Are they the the type with a retaining clip or is it just the top securing bracket of the HE that compresses against them?

Many thanks.

Just and update and a thank you.

Changed the HE and I now have Hot Water....phew...

The old calorifier type HE (white cylinder thing) is now superceded by a plate HE. If anyone else has this problem make sure you get the full replacement kit. This includes the HE plus all pipework including flowswitch, fittings etc
The P/N Worcester gave me was just the HE so make sure you get the full kit.
Kudos to PowRed in Cardiff who figured out the correct P/N's.

Thanks again.
