Love the site and banter read more posts then i type just refitted boiler after 4 months building work fan replaced but wont fire up after 2hours found boiler works without restricter ring boiler 4years old will this cause any damage

Sounds like there's still a problem involving the fan and pressures inside the boiler. If it works without the restrictor, this implies that the airswitch is responding to slightly lower pressure from the venturi (oops - can't remember whether there is one on this boiler: anyway, not relevant. Take out ring - internal pressure lower).
