Hi, Im having trouble with my boiler, In standby the pilot is lit but also there is a low flame in the boiler as well. is this normal?? The radiators are getting warm when the c/h is off. I have just replaced the diverer valve and new microswitch, but its still the same.

Any help would be appreciated

In fact its worse that that! Its potentially dangerous!

Should be turned off until an RGI can attend.

Its quite an expensive part involved and might be time for a new boiler?

Tony

You could try giving the gas valve a whack from underneath this might reseat it, had it a few times on this type of gas valves.
But at present its classed as dangerous and should be turned off

Thanks for that, I have it turned off. Got a boiler engineer out and gave me a price, but he got a bit hostile when I asked for his safe gas number, which he did not give me. I have now gone onto the safe gas web site to get an engineer from there.

Everyone knows there number off by heart no reason to just say it

To be fair I can't remember my individual number. ... think it starts with a 3. But i know my company number off by heart. There's no reason for the person to have the hump over being asked unless he is pretending.

It is a sad feature of this industry that some people are quite hostile and argumentative.

My view is that anyone who asks me is entitled to be told and I always do. They can then check on the Gas Safe website and even see my photo.

Where did you find him?

I would expect that he probably IS registered but just has a serious attitude problem.

However, the public needs to be protected and you should report him to Gas Safe in case he is unregistered. They will check him out.

There is no law that requires him to actually give you his reg number but obviously he should if he is proposing to do gas work for you.

Well done Steve. Just as well you moved on. Like dan says, this kind of person is killing the industry and often change parts not required
