heating is off and there's no taps open but the fan comes on intermittently for no reason. Any ideas why this would happen? boiler is working ok otherwise,
Some boilers cycle on and off to keep some water warm so that you don't need to run the tap for so long when you want hot water.
This feature can often be turned off.
Have a look in the boiler instructions.
Does the boiler also briefly fire up? It may just be preheating the hot water and if you say which model of boiler you have, someone can tell you how to turn that off just to make sure.
