Worcester digistat problems

My digistat has been working perfectly since I moved into this house almost three years ago. My boiler was moved into the loft so I use this to control my heating all the time. The thermostat today had been showing bizarre temperatures for example it is currently showing that its 39.5 °c which is certainly not accurate im sat freezing as my heating won't turn on as it thinks it's this temperature. Is it broken? Do I need a replacement? I've changed the batteries but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I've moved the thermostat around the house today placing it where it feels colder in the hope it would drop but it hasn't. Please help....

Put it in the fridge to get heating to work.
