Looking for some advice

Intending to replace my freestanding potterton boiler with a combi worcester greenstart 37 cdi but am seeing mixed reviews Which say it is ok.

Plumber has said boiler can be installed in loft is it safe to install it there we get very low temperatures in the winter

Plumber has also advised that we will need to replace showers because the seals on the existing showers will leak when we get the new boiler

Thanks

You need to insulate the pipes in the loft although the boiler has built in frost protection. So from a temp point of view its probably ok.

Loft needs to be properly boarded with decent access and lighting or you may have trouble getting people to work on it in future.

This is a big and heavy boiler, but mostly that's your fitter's problem. Make sure he is properly insured for when the three guys it takes to get it up there plus the boiler, all come crashing through your ceiling

Boiler is OK. Not the best on the planet but reliable enough and does the job. Not a popular one with those that have to repair them, but again if you plan to use the same guy for service and repairs then he is presumably experienced with it.

The boiler won't mind being in a cold loft, but make sure all the pipes, hot and cold and most importantly condensate, are well insulated. Apart from the risk of freezing, heat lost up in your loft really is burning money.

That boiler is a very good boiler but make sure that whoever installs it is a WBAI then you'll have a six year manufacturer's warranty on it non WBAIs only get three years manufacturer's warranty.

The warranty is part of a WB summer promotion that only runs until the end of August 2011.

The boiler is very expensive relative to other boiler manufacturer's boilers but you are paying up front for the warranty and the manufacturer's customer service which is second to none.

You also have to add the cost of five boiler services to the installation cost as a boiler service each year is a condition of warranty. WB currently charge about £130 for an annual boiler service but if you don't get WB to do make sure whoever does knows how to service these boilers and isn't just a 'form filler'.

If your going to install the boiler in a loft in Perthshire then make sure that there is an external frost stat fitted (to protect the system pipe-work in the loft) and a pipe stat fitted on the return pipework to the boiler and wired in series with the frost stat.

The boiler's internal frost stat only protects the boiler and will only come on for a few minutes at most until the temp in the boiler rises above 7 degrees C.

Your plumber is 100% correct re the shower.

Personally I would keep your existing boiler or install the combi in the house not in the loft.

Did I get my models wrong again?

In case of a combi there are the issues of converting from open vent to sealed and ( bit more info would have been handy ) and from tank to mains.

Sealed system is fine in loft if frost protected.
Loft installation requires a lot of safety measures to make it legal and WB are not very likely to go up without them if there ever is a warrantee call. The after sales service is the only reason to get a WB, so if you don't comply with their requirements you might as well get another make.
