Probably dirty water!

I wonder where the fixed price repair comes into the equation?

Tony

It has a 10 year guarantee, if, it has been serviced every year and installed properly.

Most likely been neglected

tony thanks for the answer, my mate is a pipe fitter so he replaced all the pipework in the house before the boiler was fitted so unlikely to be a dirty system, sorry not sure what you mean about the price
cheers

it has not been serviced every year ....i know that for sure, would that invalidate the guarantee? not sure what you mean by neglected?

Yes and if he has not been serviced, then it has been neglected, might go someway to explain their price.
They normally do fixed price repairs, not sure if it includes HX any more though
£500 was a fixed price, but i am sure it should last longer than that

Fixed prices are half that normally, hence what Tony said

The manufacturers expect the boiler to be serviced annually.

It sounds like an illegal install if he is not gas registered in his own name!

May well not be familiar with the correct water treatment either!

he didnt install it

No other options then, pay the £500 or get another RGI in to price it up as there is no law or legislation he can fall back on as it is a neglected appliance.
