I understand from a bit of googling that trying to work out the cost of central heating is a "how long is a piece of string" question. But I've not been home in a while and willingly left the heating on thinking it was best since a bathroom fitter told me on a job once (keep it on low 24/7 is better for the house and cheaper than turning it on high when you get home) forgetting that he is a lot richer than me. I don't have access to the house or meter for another couple of weeks so trying to guestimate what my quarterly is going to hit me with. I'm reading that could be as much as £800 per month, hopefully not as I will never financially recover from that

My dad was a plumber to trade then taught it at college for 25 years so not my proudest moment. I'd ask him but he had a massive stroke a couple of years ago, 4 days after retiring and struggles a bit with memory. I left the boiler on 24/7 at the lowest setting since August. The number on the lowest setting was 25, unsure if that's the temperature . I took the temperature of the room a few times which was always 16-17 Celsius, not 25 like the boiler number. The only radiators turned on 24/7 were the living room and my bedroom. I rehung another radiator in another bedroom after plastering at the end of November, then left that on along with the others.

I left these radiators on partly because the lassie down the stairs has a nasty cough all winter, when I look up at her windows when taking the bins out they're dripping with condensation. She has two small kids, I think one has health difficulties. So I didn't want any heat from her house just evaporating into mine into the loft space as I removed the insulation up there to fit all the crap I have accumulated, I also cut a huge hatch in the hall which I never got around to framing and closing.

Not in the greatest place financially at the moment so the thought of owing £500-800+ per month since August is very almost ruining my Christmas day haha

It's a baxi duo tec 24 which has been here for at least 5 years. The rooms are very small. Bedrooms are both 17.25m cubed(7.5x2.3x2.5) and the living rroom is 33m cubed(14.4x2.3). I dont know how well they are insulated. There was 200-400mm rockwool on top of the flooring in the loft space when I moved in, it's a huge loft space which was why I bought it. It's much smaller flat than my last and have a lot of crap that I semi need from time to time. I pushed the rockwool into the eaves which equates to half the rooms. There's also rockwool between the ceiling in each room and floorboards in the loft which are the depth of the joists which I think are 200mm

Any guestimate is appreciate. Sorry for rambling, it was a very merry Christmas, and Merry Christmas to you all!

There's no sense in worrying about something over which you have no control, and nobody here can guess any more accurately than you can. It's highly unlikely to be as much as £800/month though.

Your bathroom fitter was correct, however. Running a modern boiler low & slow will make it more efficient & cheaper to run for most people than running it at high temperatures for short periods.
