I've just taken down a lathe & plaster ceiling that was badly cracked and artexed, whilst keeping the coving...

After putting in some new anchor beams for the coving, I'm going to board over with 2 layers of 12.5mm and then skim it.

Was wondering if it would be worth putting any sound insulation in (it's one of the kid's room above), and if so with what for best effect?

cheers

Acoustic insulation (normally 100mm fibreglas quilt type) does offer a modicum of sound dedening so we do tend to fit it regardless of whether the job falls under reg's or not.

It will be too late after the event.

Given that most of the noise is probably transmitted through the beams (mainly hear thumping on the floor, not so much voices) would the quilt do much for that particular problem?

And where is best to get it?

I'm afraid not no. Although double boarding will help.

Builders merchants and the sheds all stock fibreglass quilt.
