Would you shoot

You are only a murdering b*stard when you have mmurdered someone, up to this point I haven't. If I had I will accept my time in prison and try to atone for my sins in whichever way I can, even if it was Hitler I killed.

Kill hitler and you stop ww2,.
Would it?
WW2 wasn't just down to Hitler, Hitler was the figurehead who was swept to power by a wave of resentment/desperation caused by the economic situation and the fallout of the sanctions and national embarrassment imposed upon Germany by the Versailles treaty at the end of WW1.
If it hadn't been Hitler, it probably would have been some other Nazi (or National Socialist as they preferred to be called) in the driving seat.
In fact, if it hadn't been for Hitler WW2 might have lasted a lot longer. He was so militarily inept that the Allies soon abandoned assassination attempts as they would have been counter productive to the war effort.

And of course there was still Japan, who took on the British & Americans independently of German support in 1941.

We know all that, it wasn't a statement, it was a hypothetical question, with hypothetical parameters.

Okay rolleyes, so subtracting the sensationalism of "Kill Hitler stop WW2" from your question, because it wouldn't, your original hypothetical question should be "Would you go back in time and kill someone who ordered the deaths of others?"

....

Would you be able to shoot him knowing what you know now.
.....
Would I be able to? On the premise of the question, I'd be able to yes, as I'm standing there with a loaded gun, but that doesn't mean I'd do it.

The single biggest question for me would be that by taking an action that's certain, if effective, to alter the future, there;s no guarantee the altered future would be an improvement.

If the logic for shooting Hitler was to stop WW2 and save millions of lives, how can we be sure that shooting him wouldn't simply result in a leader that didn't make the mistakes he did, and as a result, the Nazi's won the war?

For instance, had Germany concentrated on the UK before opening another front in the East against Russia, perhaps they'd have invaded here and won, then opened the front against Russia, at a better time of year, and won there too.

Would I be able to shoot Hitler? Yes.

Would I be willing to? A much more tricky question. ;)

If he was still innocent at the time then no, killing an innocent is wrong, if he is on his way to be a mass murdering c***, already guilty of crimes against humanity, and that the only options as presented in this scenario is stop him by shooting him dead or letting him go on then yes, shoot him.

However if you could go back to a time when he was innocent of all except perhaps the wrong type of thoughts then the non violent option is the preferred one. However this is outside the constraints given.

Wasn't that the gist of the original question?

Well, if you want to get picky.

You could shoot him in both kneecaps.

It wouldn't kill him, but would stop him from doing all kinds of things that lead to who he became, like fighting in WW1.
It` d have stopped him riding that bicycle in WW1 - and he`d have probably started the paralympics instead of us in the UK . Probably would have given the black guy a medal in the `36 games and had lots of wheelchairs @ the Nuremberg Rallies . Then the VW beetle would have become the Blue Badge car of choice . Motability will set you free
