Y plan Boiler and pump on for 2 secs on heating

Hi Guys
The sparky has wired up a y plan for me ( all new stuff, and the on heating the boiler and pump only power up for 2 seconds at the most whilst the valve is moving then go off once it's done moving, any ideas s to the problem, he may not be there when I go back and would like to fix it to save a revisit as its an hour away. It works ok on water and when I put them both on the valve moves as it should.

Is that a new system? If so then a bit confused as to why it would be a Y Plan, given all the newer and more appropriate approaches to zoned system, they're really not the best these days given the stress the valve motor can be placed under.

Sounds like it may not be wired properly, only check and alter it though if you are familiar working and testing on 240V electrical systems and safe isolation.

Ensure the roomstat is turned up when you try it on CH only, otherwise looks like a wiring problem as the boiler/pump run signal comes from a separate (orange) wire from the mid position valve, you might check for this wire in the terminal box.

It's kind of new, so it's insurance work, they wanted 2 prices, 1 with bells and whistles, new combi relocated to kitchen and a bare minimum one to leave everything as it is but replace the individual components that may have been affected by the flood like, pump, boiler, 3 port, stats etc they chose the bare minimum quote. I also feel it may have been wired incorrectly.

You may be able to narrow down the problem yourself if you fire up the boiler on both CH & HW. Once the boiler fires up for a few minutes, turn the cylinder stat down (after noting its setting, normally 60C), if the boiler continues firing then more than likely that no wiring from the HW OFF contact, the installers should come back to address the problem.
