Unplugging should not be a problem, but if it is like the old one I had lifting it off the wall bracket will set off the tamper alarm.
I no longer have the instructions for it but as I remember you need to put in the master code and then go through the menus to switch off the tamper. It resets after it is slotted back onto the bracket.
