Help please,
We are due to move house very shortly and the electric will be switched off for a period of up to two months. The alarm will not be left on, but how do we deactivate it so no Alarm will sound when the batteries run down as this might happen.

Any ideas comments would be gratefully received.

Only the control panel will run down. the rechargeable standby battery inside usually runs down after about 8 hours.

the batteries in the sensors and siren usually last two to three years from new.

take the panel off the wall, on the back, remove the rubber plug over the switch for the standby battery, turn the switch to "off" (read the instructions first and turn off tamper) with a pair of tweezers.

then it will go dead as soon as you unplug it, and will not issue the "battery running low" alarm.

stick a label on it to remind you to switch it back on as soon as you have power.

BTW when I was looking after an empty house, I preferred to leave the power on so that several lights and radios would go on and off using timewsitches to discourage intruders, and the alarm was on. Consider that.

How does one prevent the siren sounding when the panel is switched OFF ?

Most alarms have a hold off signal that stops the siren sounding while the panel is healthy and no alarm state exists. If the panel dies or there is an alarm state the hold off signal is removed and the siren activates.

the OP asked how to do it on a Yale 6400, so I told him.

Thank you so much for your kind help. Will be confident now of doing this once the weekend is over,

Best wishes

Which is why yale alarms actually false alarm LESS than wired systems.
Many wired alarms have internal batteries well past their usable date through lack of servicing. Soon as there is a power cut all those alarms in the neighbourhood go off.
